So glad Tim Miller’s Deadpool pitch was the one accepted

Some new concept art from the first few pitches for Fox‘s Deadpool movie has hit the web, and really does make me think of the old addage “the best things come to those who wait”.

In short, the concept art is for a pitch from Kick Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow, with the artwork itself done by Kelton Cram (X-Men: First Class, Batman v Superman). The concepts in general are really pretty good, but I’m so glad that Tim Miller‘s pitch was the one that was eventually accepted, as the costume design seen in the finished product is perfect.

Here’s the designs done by Cram, also including a Steve Austin-inspired concept for the Maruader “Random”:

When speaking to, Cram said “We wanted to try a completely new direction with the suit. More of an origin suit — a self-made, makeshift suit made from motorcycle gear. As with most origin stories, this suit would go through a transition, eventually becoming something closer to the one he wears in the comics”.

However, he ended up saying something I really disagree with: “I think Jeff Wadlow was going for a more gritty/realistic approach. The white eyes are a bit campy”.

Campy?! What the shit!? !

The white eyes are fucking awesome, and are perfectly suited to the character… plus, they’re more true to the comics!

Anyway… I’m glad that there were initial pitches, as that’s what got he ball rolling on the movie in the first place. However, I’m so glad that someone at Fox had the sense to go with Tim Miller, thanks to the leaked test footage. It’s good to know that there’s someone with a brain there!
