I’m not a huge comic book reader, though there are a few titles I really got hooked by (Watchmen, Civil War, Schism etc). But, when it comes to Marvel movies, I’m all over them like Augustus Gloop in a chocolate factory.
When Iron Man came out, I really loved it (and still do!). The tone, action, comedy… it had it all. As a result, I have a bit of a man-crush on Tony Stark.
In the latest run of comics (ie, Civil War 2), some events unfold which means a new “Iron Man” will come into play, and Marvel have announced that the mantle will be taken up by 15 year-old Riri Williams.
Riri was introduced earlier in the year in the Invincible Iron Man run, apparently reverse-engineers her own Iron Man suit, and picks up where Tony will eventually leave off.
This isn’t the first time a woman has been in the Iron Man armour, as Pepper Potts was introduced to using it in the god-awful Iron Man 3… but in the comics Tony creates a suit specifically for Pepper, dubbed “Rescue”.
What this means for the movies is anyone’s guess. At the moment, Marvel have made a load of changes in their comic runs (Thor’s a woman too at the moment)… but whether these alterations will filter through to the movies is anyone’s guess.
What do you think of Riri picking up Iron Man duties?
